London U LLB - Honour Classification

London U)

http://www.londoninternational.ac.uk/community-support-resources/current-students/programme-specifications-regulations/programme-specifications-regulations-2014-2015 (點"Laws: LLB, Diploma in Law and related individual courses (Revised Regulations)"

http://www.londoninternational.ac.uk/community-support-resources/current-students/programme-information-regulations/programme-regulations-2015-2016/programme-regulat  (點"Laws [LLB/CertHE Common Law/Individual Modules]")

Tort Law
Level 6的Courses包括: Civil and Criminal Procedures, Commercial Law, Company Law, Equity and Trust, EU Law, Evidence和Property Law。

可以幫忙的讀者,請發電郵給我 (londonu.lawstudent@gmail.com)

All Undergraduate Laws students currently registered on the Revised Regulations should now refer to the 2015-16 Programme Specification and Programme Regulations for information related to their programme of study."

  2. hanks a lot Wong. I have read this as well. But I still think it is not to be taken on the face value as it would lead to absurd results.

For example, in the past, it was stipulated in the revised regulations that for a First Honour LLB, one needs at least 610 aggregate marks, while the marks for a second up LLB is 520 (or 505) and that for a Third Honour LLB is 360.

It seems that there is no such clear benchmarks under the new regulations except the followings-

"To obtain a degree with a given class of Honours you must normally achieve passes in at least half the modules at or above that class, and to achieve an aggregate mark at or above that class, but the Board of Examiners will take into account your overall performance"

So it seems to mean one needs at least 540 marks (being 60 times 9 subjects) for a Second Up LLB under the new regulations. If the threshold for a second up degree is raised by the new regulations, it would have retrospective effect?

Also, in the past, all nine subjects stuided throughout the Graduate Entry Route, inclduing Contract Law, Common Law, Public Law and Criminal Law, are counted towards the honour classification.

But under the new regulations, "the class of degree awarded is worked out on the basis of your performance in all modules taken at levels 5 and 6. Your aggregate mark is also taken into account." Accordingly, it means that the marks we obtain in Contract Law, Common Law, Public Law and Criminal Law are not important, as they are not Levels 5 and 6 courses. Alternatively put, they can only be relevant in marginal cases, where the board considers the aggregate marks of a student.

Then for those students who did well in Level 4 Courses, the new system would be unfair to them being affected retrospectively.

Hence, I intend to think that the new regulations will only apply to current students to a certain extent, with some parts exempted.

    1. Hi Law Student,

I'm currently looking into applying for the LLB and the classification is definitely a factor (or I should say a goal) for me to consider the number of subjects I should take for my first year.

It appears that there is a difference of courses to be included as the basis of classes between Standard Entry students and Graduate Entry students.

Section 8.4 states that the classes of Standard Entry students are worked out based on the performance in all modules taken at level 5 and 6, whereas Section 8.5 states that the classes of Graduate Entry students are based on the performance in all modules.

In short, grades for level 4 modules will only be incorporated in classes if students are taking the Graduate route.

The aggregate score for each class is not stated in the 2015/2016 regulation, but point 5 in the 2014/15 version is kept in Section 8.7 in the 2015/16 version. I guess the current scoring benchmark for different classes might not be fixed anymore.
